Hitting ink with a stick since 2007
well I re-discovered this old sketchbook for the zillionth time the other day, it would seem that back in my first year of uni I managed to take a very short break from getting hammered and did a few charcoal drawings…
- well things have been a bit busy lately, all traces of a drawing schedule at home here have been tracked down and sprayed with bleach in the face. Especially after my last two weekends have been spent covering the entire flat in a thick layer of dust and pesto* but it’s okay, through being completely antisocial in my breaks at work I’ve managed to get some drawing done. I’m still alive! It seems to be three weeks since I last posted? I think the new job has kidnapped my brain. And as well the new flat needs much working on - I got to rip up the laminate floor and tear out the crazy formica cupboard, which makes things look a shitload better. No photos though because my camera has slipped into an unexpected coma, and new batteries were no help at all - who knows where I can find a good camera doctor in Edinburgh? No sketchy goodness either just yet, the tiny scraps of spare time I have get spent on a couple of projects that won’t be ready for a good while yet. Oh wait! I was at the ZOO! There was a RHINO’S ARSE!

Well I’ve had four hours sleep in two nights and it seems to be half past eleven already so I’ll make this quick - the incredibly irresponsible Evan Dahm of Rice Boy (link is down the side) is making a bit of a habit of throwing competitions. This one is to colour a picture. Well I’ve never needed an excuse to break out the crayons, and here is the result:
this is the main reason I prefer paints to using the computer - it’d take me forever to get that effect with pixels, and I know you can just go back and fix any bad pixels but I’m pretty sure messing up is half the fun.Sleep for me! I’ll see you guys when I’m feeling a bit less weird in the head

- So how is everybody? Good! Today I asked myself ‘what’s the logical progression from a ninja pirate?’ and found this to be the answer:

well I’m pretty tired just now, I’m gonna listen to some of that good ole haddock ska while I write this post then I’ll crash. Deal? DEAL!
First, new stuff: this is the initial sketch for a new tattoo design (not for me this time), which will probably have to be re-jigged owing to my drawing pad springing a leak - it was the weirdest damn thing, I used this pad for inking a couple of months back and it was fine, I ink the spacegirl and it felt like I was using a sponge. But anyway, here she is:
I’m not sure if the gun is phallic enough for that 50’s vibe, we’ll wait and see… In other news, I have ballsed up, already joined the amazing Kate Beaton’s new supergroup livejournal community thing it is time for history, which could be a good place for me to make stuff up off the top of my head and see who falls for it. Was that last bit meant to be struck through? Guess not! For the terminally lazy my comic-based contribution is right here:

- I got a day off! Yesssssss! I’ve successfully managed to do pretty much nothing so far as well, other than this piece of monsterness for this competition from Order of Tales, which is the shiny new project from Evan Dahm who does Rice Boy
this is what I reckon somebody called Warlord Shureg should look like. I would guess his grasp of social skills is tenuous at best, but who cares about that when your favourite hobby is impaling people in the gizzard*?
*if gizzards are unavailable he has been known to club his differently-specied subjects to death with a passing folk singer
- Well with absolutely no thanks to BT I’m except-for-random-disconnectings back online! From Edinburrrrrrr! Due to spending about a gazillion hours waiting for buses each day last week before I figured out what the good ones are, I didn’t get as much drawing done as I wanted, but I’ve comandeered the kitchen table till I figure out where the hell I can squeeze a drawing desk, and I got a few smaller pieces done:
The whale will be relevant for a really stupid idea I had last week, I’m gonna see if I can get a comic out of it before I do any more postings on the subject, nurr nurr! Next!
